Unfortunately, only two models come equipped with the turbo-charged 2.4 liter power plant. The Base, Touring, and Limited trims are all unchanged for 2003. These three lower models retain the 2.4 liter DOHC inline four, which offers a modest power supply of 150 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque. This engine is mated to a five-speed manual transmission, and a four-speed automatic is optional. Gas mileage in mixed driving is estimated in the low 20s. Standard features on this model include 15-inch wheels, front airbags, air conditioning, a CD audio system, power windows and mirrors, intermittent wipers and a rear defroster. Only a few options are offered with this trim level, and currently books for about $5000 less than the top shelf PT. Higher trim levels provide upscale features or a higher performance engine. On this base model, owners are offered few distractions from Chrysler's nagging mechanical problems and build quality issues. Recurring service stops, even from minor problems, can quickly become very costly. Common issues include excessive brake wear, windshield wiper failure, and a myriad of annoying squeaks and creeks.
